Emergency Electrician for Blackout or Power Failure
When you need an emergency electrician for blackout or power failure, call the experts at Sustainable Industries to get you back up and running again.
There are two main types of blackout or power failure:
• Internal/isolated blackout, occurs within a single electrical system contained to a premises. For example, if your home is the only one on the street with no power, you are dealing with an internal blackout or power failure.
• Area-wide blackout. This is a result of a fault within the broader electrical infrastructure serving the buildings in a given area. Examples include trees falling on power lines, transformer or relay malfunctions, short circuits etc. In the case of an area-wide blackout your home or business is not the only one with no power.
Internal power failure
If a blackout only occurs within your home or business, leaving others around you unaffected, contact our emergency electricians to diagnose and repair the issue.
Area-wide blackout
The power provider and/or owner of the affected electrical infrastructure is responsible for getting power back up and running as quickly as possible. They may need to clear fallen trees or repair an electrical fault within the system. This can take time, as any repairs need to be undertaken safely.
What should you do in a power failure or blackout?
Check your fuse box
A good place to start is the fuse box for your electrical system. Specifically, check to see whether the safety switch has been tripped. If this is the case, then the cause of the power failure is a faulty appliance or short circuit within your electrical system.
With the safety switch tripped, the risk of electrical shock or fires is greatly reduced, so you can attempt to identify the problem by unplugging all your appliances and power points. Once this is done, reset the safety switch and see if power returns. If it does, plug in your appliances, when the culprit behind your power failure is plugged in the safety switch will trip again. If power does not return, double check each room, including any outdoor areas with power points, just in case you missed the problem appliance.
Can’t find the culprit?
Having checked your fuse box and unplugged your appliances one by one, then plugged them in again, if you haven’t found the cause its time to call an emergency electrician. The safety switch has done its job and protected your home and family from electrical shock and the risk of fire. Leave it be, do not attempt to reset it again or touch any other components in your fuse box.
